Name: Arya Firestorm
Species: Dragon-Blooded
World:
Arya's world is somewhat complicated, intertwining fantasy, steampunk, and folklore. The continent of Crescentia is one enormous crescent shaped continent, with a series of islands arcing from the center of the crescent and south, curving to form a nearly intertwining arc with the main continent. The mainland has a variety of cities and habitats, ranging from gloomy swamps, to great forests, volcanic peaks, and just about everything in between. Much of the land is beautiful, and nearly untamed, even with all the civilization.
The island in the dead center of the crescent contains the capitol, a beautiful, elaborate city known as Kiri-Tsza. The city showcases the pinnacle of the world's technology, combining both magic and machine in harmony to benefit the lives of everyone. Those who seek fame and fortune quickly often venture to the capitol city to do so, as it is the head of nearly everything. Entertainment, politics, business, you name it, there's likely an opportunity for it here. Scattered across the main continent and other islands are other cities, each of them with their own charm. Travel across the world is usually done by airship, train, boat, or of course, by foot.
The populace is generally led by an Emperor or Empress, following one of the stronger bloodlines. Usually one of either a royal lineage, or one of 'strong blood'. The Emperor/Empress resides in the capitol, but there are smaller nations that they rule over. Each nation is ruled by a different leader, governing their own races and cities, however they are ultimately answerable to the Emperor. There's actually very little of a military force, even with all the nations combined. However, there are definitely smaller groups of fighters and assassins within each nation. While everything is usually quite peaceful, there are some who would see that peace destroyed, see everything thrown into chaos. And within that chaos, they would take the throne for themselves.
There's somewhat of a religion, and for the most part, it mirrors Shintoism (specifically shrine/folk Shintoism). Not everyone follows it, but it's the ruling belief in this world. However, it's not exactly the same as it is in our world. Even for those who don't follow it, they generally believe that there's some sort of afterlife as a spirit waiting for them. Those who die and are not judged to spend their eternity in a hellish, lonely underworld do tend to return as spirits, part of the land they grew up on.
The technology level is somewhat difficult to explain. It's both advanced and not very advanced at the same time. Most contraptions are a combination of metal and wood, and many also include magic, such as the airships, using generators fueled by magic infused stones to stay afloat. There are no motor cars, but there are steam-powered trains and boats, as well as tools such as drills and chainsaws. Guns are generally extremely expensive, and they tend to be hard to come by, often only being revolvers/handguns, with the rarer rifle. There's no computers, or phones, but there are radios! There are even radio talk shows and music that air on a regular basis. Indoor plumbing and electric lighting/heat is also a thing. Lighting is a bit more of a luxury, though.
This world also incorporates magic, ranging from healing spells by calling the natural energy around you, from elemental magic such as fire, ice, and lightning. Magic is actually difficult to use, and requires not only a considerable amount of practice and training, but you must also have some sort of magic in your bloodline, no matter how far back it goes. Therefore, the average human will very likely not have any sort of magic abilities whatsoever, but many of the 'Blooded', elves, and even half-bloods will. Most magic is spoken, and the strongest magics have been woven into song, powerful hymns that reverberate with the wielder and the magic they command. As a rule of thumb, any one person can only command one elemental magic, although those of exceptionally strong bloodlines have been known to have a rare dual-wielder.
In addition to the normal myriad of animal and plant life, there are also a variety of monsters and other fantasy/folklore creatures! If you can find it in a different fantasy setting, you can probably find it here. From phoenixes, nezumi, unicorns, and dragons, to ghosts, kappa, alraune, and giant insects. Many of these creatures are also quite sentient, and while they may not always have a human level of intellect, some even surpass it. Especially dragons, the oldest race. True dragons are a rarity nowadays, most of them taking human form and hoarding what they want. Few dare cross them.
The people are also a variety of races. Humans are fairly normal and the most common, followed by the Elves (who call themselves the Forestborn), and Dwarves (Earthborn). Next up are the 'Blooded', the descendants of older races, such as Dragons, Kitsune, Phoenixes, and the like. While they appear mostly human, they retain a few characteristics of their noble bloodlines. They are also usually capable of wielding magic to a formidable degree. Nearly every ruler in the past three hundred years or so have been a 'Blooded'. While there are the normal 'Blooded', there are those with diluted bloodlines as well, usually called 'Half-Bloods'. Half-Bloods aren't all that different from their full-blooded kin, although they generally have a more monstrous appearance. Spirits that live among the general populace are unbelievably rare, but they do exist. They generally then to keep to themselves, but are usually wise and are sought out for advice. Spirits look like they did in life, but with a less-corporeal appearance.
Personality:
Arya very often puts on a false persona as a giggling, cutesy songstress. In public, she's usually all smiles and pleasantries, appearing very polite and honest. This couldn't be further from the truth. Who would willingly follow her if they knew exactly what a manipulative, evil thing she truly was? Everything is just a toy to her, someone to entertain herself with. If there's something she wants, she'll get it, and she knows just how to do it, whether it's playing someone like a puppet, or using her body. She doesn't care for the common folk, except to ensure that they give her proper tribute. Popular musicians tend to receive lots of admiration and gifts. What better job to please a dragon-blooded with a beautiful voice? Well, there's only one other job she can think of, and she's slowly making sure all her plans are in place to put her there. Empress Firestorm has a nice ring to it.
As is the case with most dragons, Arya is incredibly greedy and selfish. Thankfully, she finds it very easy to get what she wants due to her current career. All those loving, adoring fans give her so much, and all she has to do is smile and sing a little. Her first love is gold. Coins, items crafted out of it, you name it. It's a lovely, beautiful precious metal, and she even has some infused into her hair. She's also a lover of the feminine figure. That's right, Arya collects women in a harem of sorts. Not just for...satisfaction, but simply to admire. Between her own beauty and hypnotic voice, she lures them in and slowly but surely warps their minds into believing they belong nowhere but at her beck and call. She may keep them around like pets, but Arya actually treats them very well, even showing some genuine affection towards them. And if someone happens to touch her gold or harm one of her beloved girls, they're likely to meet a hideous end.
Arya's temper is known to flare with very little provocation. Insult her once, and she may very well want you dead. Needless to say, when she isn't trying to pretend to be someone likable, she's very cruel and almost ill mannered when she's not in the presence of her harem. They may be the only people she honestly respects to some degree, even if only for their beauty. Aside from them, when it comes to a confrontation, Arya is unmistakably cruel. If she can make her foes writhe in agony, she considers that alone a victory. If she can find even the slightest chink in the proverbial armor, she will abuse it without hesitation, even going so far as to drag innocents into it. She'll make sure you hurt. Physically and emotionally. It pleases her immensely.
To her, everyone is beneath her. As are daily chores and other menial tasks. Someone of her bloodline and stature should never have to stoop to a servant's level. She has this air of smug superiority around her, even when she's behind a facade. If you're not entranced by her, you can practically feel her vast sense of self. She treats other people challenging her as a joke. Like they could really stand up against her? It's laughable. She's very confident in herself, from her appearance, to her strength and powers, and in her 'collection'. Besides, if anyone tried to make their collections better than hers, she'd just take them out of the picture and add their things to her own. With her ego as it is, it's...not that difficult to get on her good side. Simply flatter her and offer her gifts.
While Arya finds most things beneath her and only pretends to like things most people do, she is a lover of the more beautiful things in life, such as music, fine art, and women. She can spend hours genuinely rambling about her favorite hymns or pieces of art. She finds great enjoyment in admiring works of fine craftsmanship or melodies. Even so, she's picky about what she likes. Things should be smooth, soft, and enticing. Anything that looks or sounds rough is usually rejected almost immediately. Aside from when she's busy tormenting someone, these are some of the few things that honestly make her happy.
Abilities:
First off, Arya is not human, despite her mostly humanoid appearance. She's one of the Dragon-Blooded, a descendant of the true dragons, with that same fiery blood flowing through her veins. As such, she shares several traits of a dragon, such as their longevity, strength, and the ability to see clearly in the dark. Her specific bloodline were fire dragons, granting her immunity to fire and extreme heat, and as a side effect, raises her body temperature considerably. She's much stronger than the average human, and she controls it very well. She can go from gently caressing one of her girls, to shattering someone's ribcage with a kick. She does share a long life like the dragons of old, but rather than being nigh immortal, she could live for several hundred years. Unless of course, she finds a way to make herself immortal in the meantime.
In addition to her unseen dragon traits, Arya also possesses the ability to sprout dragon wings at will, with the strength to propel her through the air at ease. It isn't something she uses often as it would ruin her lovely clothes, but should she ever need to use them, she can. She also has a few scales, one small red scale beneath her left eye similar to a beauty mark, and a patch on either side of her hips.
Arya's magic is fire based, allowing her to call and manipulate flames at will. However, this is most effective when she sings, using a hymn of power to control fire for either a display or for offensive purposes. Of course, she doesn't need to sing to use her magic, it's simply more effective that way. When singing, her voice also has a hypnotic effect that entrances those that listen to her. It's not quite mind control, it's more persuasion than anything else. However, those with strong wills can shake it off easily enough.
Occasionally, she may find herself in a situation where she must physically deal with an opponent. This is one of the few times Arya actually brandishes a weapon. Or weapons. She wields a pair of golden clawed gauntlets crafted with magic. Other than being nigh indestructible, they don't have any special qualities of their own besides a series of runes carved into the fingers. When she sings, these runes light up and ignite, adding a fiery surprise to those who'd fight her.
